What is art and what is it’s actual purpose?

Should it always adorn our homes and offices? Who are those informed enough to decide what is good art and what is not good art? Can anyone do this? Most of us have visited an art gallery at some time and are familiar with the experience of responding positively or negatively to a painting, regardless of the advice and opinions of “experts”.  During the experience, we often ask ourselves, “What qualities make me like this?” or “Why do I like this one, yet not that one?”

It is possible that as a painting becomes more familiar, our opinion of it can become more positive and after a time, it can actually change our mood in kind. As well, a painting can evoke a variety of emotions and make us remember the past, make us happy or even make us feel melancholy. As with music, fine wine and food, it is up to each of us to decide what real “art” is for ourselves. In reality, art is in everyone and we each know what kind of art works for us.  Although we may be directed to the finer points and theories behind a particular painting’s success, the personal impact and the emotions it generates are what dictate it’s true success as a work of art.

Lavott art has been inspired by many artists, Picasso, Caravaggio, Bacon, Dali to name but a few.  You may well see the influences should you decide to browse the Galleries.
