What is art?
So what is art? What is it for? Is it always to adorn our homes and offices?
Who decides what is good and what is not good art?
Most of us have visited an art gallery at some time, and will know that a painting, regardless of the advice and opinions of ‘the experts’, will or won’t meet with approval. So ask yourself, ‘what was it that did it for me?’ ‘Why this one and not that one?’
It is possible that a painting can ‘grow’ on you the more it is observed, the more you see and, more importantly, how it makes you feel. What emotions it evokes, anger, pleasure, does it make me want to cry or smile, does it do anything?
So, as with music, fine wine and food, it is you, and only you, who decide. Art is in us all, we know what works for us. Okay, we may be directed to the finer points and the reasons behind a particular painting’s reason for being, but the impact and the emotions it generates are personal, they are yours.
